*** European Commission on the elimination of environmental pollution from the Green Continent
The European Commission (EC) has proposed a revision of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). This significantly reduces the total carbon dioxide emissions and increases the annual reduction rate as part of the EU Green Agreement. This issue has been taken more seriously due to growing concerns about European countries’ challenges in discussing the environment and health. In recent days, we have witnessed floods in parts of Germany that have killed 103 people and left more than 1,000 missing. The continuation of these environmental threats could completely darken the future of the Green Continent. These laws have been made in order to compensate for some regional aid related to pollution.
*** The European Commission’s ambitious goals to eliminate environmental pollution
The European Commission has set an ambitious goal of achieving a net emission reduction of at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels. The previous target was 40%. The commission also intends to be carbon-free by 2050. The role of electric vehicles in this goal is very important. The age of fossil fuels seems to be over, and the countries that used to create wealth in this way should think of another scenario. Compared to 2005 levels, it will decrease by 61% by 2030. The previous target was 51%. This, if realized, would have had a significant impact on international health agreements.
*** The European Commission’s vision for the implementation of the proposal
But the speeches and statements published by the commission were not just through a few papers and statements. The action plan has been announced by this commission to control environmental pollution. To achieve this, the European Commission has proposed that part of the emissions can be controlled by reducing emissions by 4.20% per year, instead of 2.20% per year under the current system. This will be followed by a one-time reduction in total emissions by 117 million. The Commission has also proposed to phase out the free-to-air allowance for the aviation sector previously covered by the EU ETS and to approve the full release of the allowance by 2027.
The goal is to create a stronger price signal that reduces pollution. The fact that aviation is no exception shows that the European Union is determined to control environmental pollution. It remains to be seen to what extent this action in practice can lead to the desired success and satisfaction. Under the proposal, the release of maritime transport will be included in the existing EU ETS. While emissions from fuels used in road and building transportation will be priced by a new separate pollution trading system. This is the reason why cars will be fully electrified in the future.

The new upstream system targets fuel suppliers instead of households and car drivers. The European Commission blames overuse of fossil fuels for global warming.
