CIS pig iron prices went up again during the week to Thursday April 22 in new sales to Italy and Turkey, but once again no spot sales were reported to the United States.
*** high-manganese pig iron
Fastmarkets’ price assessment for high-manganese pig iron, export, fob main port Black Sea, CIS, was $550-558 per tonne on Thursday, up from $۵۳۵-۵۵۰ per tonne one week earlier.
A sale of 10,000 tonnes of Ukraine-origin pig iron was heard to a trader at $550 per tonne fob, for prompt shipment, sources said. The deal was done to the Turkish market early in the assessment week, Fastmarkets understands. The tonnage and price were in line with bookings heard late last week.
Another Ukrainian exporter was heard selling pig iron to Italy at $585-588 per tonne cfr. This would equate to $555-558 per tonne fob, sources estimated. That was up compared with a deal done a week earlier at $580-585 per tonne cfr, or $550-555 per tonne fob.
Consequently, Fastmarkets’ price assessment for pig iron, import, cfr Italy, was $585-588 per tonne on Thursday, up from $565-580 per tonne one week before.
No spot market sales were reported to the United States, where suppliers and buyers were still failing to agree a workable price.
The key pig iron exporters from the CIS kept their target prices to the US above $600 per tonne cfr, more than $570 per tonne fob.
Meanwhile, the workable price for US buyers increased only to $575-585 per tonne cfr, or $540-550 per tonne fob, from last week’s $570-580 per tonne cfr, or $535-545 per tonne fob.
*** low-manganese pig iron
The price assessment for low-manganese pig iron, export, fob main port Baltic Sea, CIS, was $540 per tonne fob on April 22, up by $10 per tonne from $530 per tonne fob a week earlier on a generally positive mood in the global pig iron market, sources said.
Offers from the CIS, the key supplier from the Baltic Sea to Europe, were as high as $620 per tonne fob, but sources said that was well above the reasonable market level for buyers.
