CIS flat steel export market was slow during the week to Monday January 11 because suppliers had just returned from holidays, although the general market mood was positive, sources told Fastmarkets.
CIS flat steel , Hot-rolled coil ***
Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel hot-rolled coil, export, as CIS flat steel fob Black Sea, CIS was $785-790 per tonne on Monday, up from $755-760 per tonne a week earlier.
One Russian supplier was heard to have increased HRC offers to Turkey to $790 per tonne fob Black Sea from $755-765 per tonne fob late last year.
Meanwhile, the latest sales of Ukraine-origin material were reported at about $785 per tonne fob to North Africa, although, Ukrainian suppliers were yet to announce new offers at the time of the assessment publication.
“It’s bad news for buyers because CIS export prices will go up again following the bullish mood of suppliers in the EU, the United States and Asia,“ one trader said.
No trading activity was reported in the cold-rolled coil (CRC) market, thus Fastmarkets kept its weekly price assessment for steel cold-rolled coil, export, fob Black Sea, CIS unchanged at $825-835 per tonne week on week on Monday.
CIS flat steel , Steel heavy plate ***
Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel heavy plate, 8-50mm, export, as CIS flat steel fob Black Sea, CIS was at $705-730 per tonne on Monday, also flat week on week.
Russian suppliers kept their steel plate prices at $705-710 per tonne fob, sources said.
The latest offers for steel plate from Ukraine were reported at about $730-735 per tonne fob late last year, however, no new offers have been heard yet, market participants told Fastmarkets.
Steel slab ***
Export prices for steel slab from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) increased again during the week to Monday January 11 on sustained demand and bullish suppliers.
Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel slab, export, as CIS flat steel fob Black Sea, CIS at $685-700 per tonne on January 11, up from $675-680 per tonne a week earlier.
Slab sales were reported to Turkey at $700 per tonne, or close to $685 per tonne fob, during the week.
Meanwhile, offers went up to $720 per tonne cfr in Turkey, which would be about $705 per tonne fob and one supplier said the workable market level was about $۷۰۰ per tonne fob.
In Italy, offers of slab were heard at $700-710 per tonne cfr, that would be about $680-690 per tonne fob. Although, an Italian market participant described that as “pretty high for the moment“, especially considering the current plate prices.
