World Steel Assessment of Global Crude Steel Production

    شناسه : 43086 14 فروردین 1400 - 10:35
Global steel markets in February had different performances in different countries. Some have experienced production growth and other countries have reported a decline in crude steel production. This, in addition to the effects of the Corona virus, could have other economic implications.

One of the most official and authoritative sources of steel reporting by countries is the World Steel Association, or in other words, World Steel, which provides monthly and annual reports on the steel performance of countries. Global crude steel production for the 64 countries reported by the World Steel Association was 150.2 million tonnes in February 2021, up 4.1% from a year earlier. Global crude steel production for 2020 reached 1864.0 million tons, down 0.9 percent from 2019. In the following, we will discuss the details of this report. Please be with Artan Press.

*** World Steel Association report on global crude steel production

Global crude steel production for the 64 countries reported to the World Steel Association was 150.2 million tonnes in February 2021, up 4.1% from February 2020. China is estimated to produce 83.0 million tonnes of crude steel in February 2021, up 10.9% from February 2020. India, China’s biggest rival in Asia, produced 9.1 million tonnes of crude steel, down 3.1 percent from a year earlier.

*** Comparing crude steel production performance in February this year with the previous year

Japan produced 7.5 million tons, down 5.6 percent. The United States produced 6.3 million tons, down 10.9 percent. Russia is estimated to produce 5.7 million tons, down 1.3 percent. South Korea produced 5.5 million tons, up 1.2 percent. Turkey produced 3.0 million tonnes, an increase of 5.9%. Germany produced 3.1 million tons, down 10.4 percent. Brazil produced 2.8 million tons, an increase of 3.8 percent. But the situation in Iran in this report is completely different from other steel producing countries. It is estimated that Iran has produced 2.3 million tons, an increase of 11.5 percent. The reason for the growth of Iranian steel production can be considered in the different style of management of industrial enterprises in the Corona period.

*** Evaluation of crude steel production based on geographical area

Regarding the geographical area and based on continental production in February this year, the following should be considered.
Crude steel production in February by region is as follows.

*** China holds the record for crude steel production growth

Asia produced 1,374.9 million crude steels in 2020, up 1.5 percent from 2019. China’s crude steel production reached 1,053 million tons in 2020, up 5.2 percent from a year earlier. China’s share of global crude steel production has increased from 53.3% in 2019.

*** Reduction of crude steel production in India and Japan

Japan produced 7.5 tons, down 5.6 percent. Brazil produced 2.8 million tons, up 3.8 percent. Iran is estimated to produce 2.3 million tons, an increase of 11.5 percent.

*** Decline in EU crude steel production

The European Union produced 138.8 million tonnes of crude steel in 2020, down 11.8% from 2019. Germany produced 35.7 million crude steels in 2020, down 10.0 percent from 2019.

*** Rational production of crude steel in the CIS region

At the CIS, production was 102.0 million tonnes in 2020, up 1.5% in 2019. Russia is estimated to produce 73.4 million tons in 2021, an increase of 2.6 percent in 2019. Ukraine produced 20.6 million tons in 2020, down 1.1 percent from 2019.

*** Middle East performance in crude steel production in 2020

The Middle East produced 45.4 million tons of crude steel in 2020, an increase of 2.5% in 2019. Iran is estimated to produce 29.0 million tons in 2020, which is 13.4% more than in 2019.

*** Crude steel production performance in South America

Annual crude steel production for South America in 2020 was 38.2 million tons, down 8.4 percent in 2019. Brazil produced 31.0 million tons in 2020, down 4.9 percent from 2019.

    *** Conclusion

Steel production growth is expected to resume next year due to the easing of the Corona crisis. But there are challenges along the way. One of the most important challenges in crude steel production in all countries of the world is the increase in production costs due to rising personnel and manpower costs. Humanity is a big challenge in the mines Iron ore is considered on the other hand. Uncertainties due to the distribution of vaccines in steel producing countries is an issue that has led to the current maximum time required for steel production in all countries. We have to wait for 2021 and add various factors to the analysis. Maybe it’s a little early to predict the trend of the year.
