A set of comments at the Steel Price conference, attended by 52 domestic and foreign companies, showed that the steel industry record figures from projected values for reaching the 20-year vision goals in the manufacturing sector both in the market and in the infrastructure sector.
Keyvan Jafari Tehrani – Managing Director of Comprehensive Trade Company – With reference to the current situation in the global market and domestic infrastructure about the possibility of the principles of steel targets and production of 55 million tons of steel in 2025 said: “according to plans, in 2025, when Iran’s steel production reaches 55 million tons, about 20.5 million tons of it should be exported, studies show that there are two other possibilities about steel exports until 2025. The first is the adjustments of the market and changes in the current situation, which at best will export to 16 million tons of steel, but if the current situation continues, the export figure of Iran will not exceed 11.6 million tons. As an expert I think our export figure is the same.”
He pointed to the fact that steel consortia in the country should be united and new ones should be created and mentioned some examples around the world, he said: “Among the infrastructure needed for exporting steel is the road infrastructure that you can see that Brazil has taken a major step to become one of the major contributors in the world, which one of its major actions is to provide a large fleet of sea transport for the development of its infrastructure, while today in our country, even if we can reach 55 million tons of steel, and the our export market would get 20.5 million tons, we will not be able to transport it.
In another part of the conference, Asadullah Farshad, the managing director of Iranian Ghadir Steel, pointed out the importance of diversification and quality of steel products, and increasing productivity in this area, said that the thing to be noticed before everything is that today consumption of Steel has turned to consumption of engineering steels that can be used in the aerospace, marine industry and other advanced industries, and if we want to make a good market, we should pay attention to quality and optimize our steel production lines.
Everything depends on the Chinese president.
He went on to state that: “steel prices may have fallen and some raw materials, such as iron ore, are facing price reductions, but still the cost of production is high. When we look at the investment rate of iron ore, concentrate, pellets, sponge iron, and finally rolling, we see less profits in steel production than onions!”
He said, “If steel gets cheaper than the 468-dollar limit, it faces a fall in prices, and this is by no means in the interest of the industry, and cannot be called a price correction.”
Jafari Tehrani, referred to the situation in the global steel market, and said that the upcoming presidential elections will be held in China in few days, and since the Chinese steel industry has a large part of the market, it will actually determine the supply and demand and the price of raw materials and steel. That’s why the future of steel will also be determined by the decision of the Chinese president after the presidential election.
He added that whether China wants to continue its economic growth or pursue a policy of equal value against the dollar is all factors affecting the steel market.
