Targeting the production of 33 million tons of steel ingots

The steel industry is one of the most important achievements of the government, which has experienced a significant leap in the past few years. According to statistics, the amount of steel production in the last year of the government of prudence and hope will reach 33 million tons.

Steel production statistics in the first 4 months of this year (from April to July) show a 9% growth in the production of steel ingots. According to statistics published by the Iranian Steel Producers Association, in the first four months of this year, 9 million and 483 thousand tons of steel ingots were produced. While in the first 4 months of last year, 8 million 683 thousand tons of steel ingots were produced.

The total capacity of the steel chain in 1992 was reported to be 120 million tons. This capacity reached about 210 million tons in 97 and 260 million tons in 1998. Thus, 140 million tons of capacity building has been done so far.

The amount of steel exports in 1997 was equal to 8 million and 200 thousand tons and for the year 98 was equal to 12 million tons. Meanwhile, the amount of steel production in 1997 was about 25 million tons, which last year reached about 28 million tons.

*** Move towards the production of special steels

The Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade believes that our country has experienced significant growth in the steel sector. In 1990, we had about 5 to 7 million tons of steel imports, now this industry, in addition to meeting domestic needs, also has the ability to export. Iranian steel products are exported to Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe.
A study of foreign trade statistics shows that in 1998, several hundred thousand tons of special steels (alloy) were imported into the country, and now the country’s production units are being directed in this direction to meet domestic needs and to prevent imports.
Iran is now the tenth largest steelmaker in the world, and according to statistics from the World Steel Association, in recent years, Iran’s steel production has grown by more than 65 countries.

*** Capacity building within the framework of the vision document

According to the goals of the vision document, the steel industry has a capacity of 55 million tons. By the end of 1997, 35 million tons of capacity had been commissioned. In 1998, about 40 million tons of production capacity of this industry entered the production circuit; Therefore, achieving the goal of Vision 1404 for the steel industry is not far off.
At present, the country’s steel consumption is estimated at 15 million tons per year. Domestic demand for the industry is not expected to increase to more than 20 million tonnes if construction projects boom and demand for housing and construction increases. Therefore, in line with meeting domestic demand, marketing for the export of manufactured steel should also be considered.

    *** Exploration development is essential

The formation, growth and development of steelmaking units in the 80s and 90s inherently conveys the message that Iran has the necessary capacity and capacity as a steelmaker in the world, but now the need to continue to be present in this global arena, to continue exploration activities to provide food Steelmaking units.

Based on quantitatively predicted goals up to the horizon of 1400, the amount of iron ore extraction is planned in different years. The amount of extraction of this mineral in 1996 was equal to 85 million tons. This capacity should reach 105 million tons in 1999. It is also expected to increase its extraction capacity to 107 million tons by 1400.
This year, the production capacity of 50 million tons of iron ore concentrate is expected. Meanwhile, the production capacity of the country’s iron ore concentrate in 1996 was 33 million tons.
According to the vision document, if the steel development goals are achieved on the horizon of 1404; After that, we need 160 million tons of iron ore annually. If it is not possible to extract this volume from mineral reserves, we will need to import iron ore.

*** Steel production on the way up

Steel production statistics in the first 4 months of this year (from April to July) show a 9% growth in the production of steel ingots. According to statistics published by the Iranian Steel Producers Association, in the first four months of this year, 9 million and 483 thousand tons of steel ingots were produced. While in the first 4 months of last year, 8 million 683 thousand tons of steel ingots were produced.
This year, the production of steel products has been reported to be growing. The production of these products this year with a growth of 5% compared to the same period in 1998 reached 7 million 257 thousand tons. While the production of these products in the same period last year was reported to be 6 million and 930 thousand tons.

*** Increased production of sponge iron

The production of sponge iron among steel chain items in the first 4 months of this year was higher than the same period of 1998; This growth was reported by 12% and showed a figure of 10 million 581 thousand tons.
The amount of sponge iron production in the same period of 1998 was recorded in addition to 9 million and 468 thousand tons.
In recent years, Iran has become the second largest producer of sponge iron in the world after India. But now the decline in the production of the Asian rival has caused Iran to gain the first place in the production of this product.
It is worth mentioning that the operation of 7 provincial steel projects, each with a capacity of 800,000 tons in the field of sponge iron production, is one of the reasons for the growth of Iran’s position in this sector.
