Turkish flat steel prices in the market have continued to increase during the week to Friday December 4, with demand being strong, sources told Fastmarkets.

The good demand this week was mostly because coated coil producers and pipe makers had low stock levels.

HRC export prices showed similar large increases over the week.

One HRC export deal for about 8,000 tonnes was heard to Spain at $695 per tonne fob for March production.
Turkish sources noted that demand in the steel export markets was strong because of low inventory levels.
But the European Commission (EC) has made imports of hot-rolled flat steel from Turkey subject to registration upon arrival into the EU, it said on November 13. This would make it possible to impose an anti-dumping duty retroactively.

    *** Import prices

HRC was offered for import from Russia’s MMK at $660 per tonne cfr this week, rising from $635 per tonne cfr last week.
Compatriot company NLMK offered similar product at $670 per tonne cfr Turkey.
Chinese HRC was also on offer at $660 per tonne cfr Turkey, but it was for March shipping and buyers were reluctant to book because of the long delivery time.

China offered the product at $730 per tonne cfr, but no major deals were made from the country.
No new prices were heard from CIS countries, the traditional source of CRC imported into Turkey.
As a result, Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel CRC import, cfr main port Turkey, was $710-730 per tonne on November 4, rising from $670-710 per tonne on November 27.
