The Turkish long steel export market remained sluggish over the past week due to limited demand from the country’s major export outlets, market sources said on Thursday July 8.
Turkish steelmakers continued to offer rebar for export at $730-750 per tonne fob on actual-weight basis.
But there were no significant bookings, apart from some small containerized deals, market participants said.
Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel reinforcing bar (rebar), export, fob main port Turkey, was unchanged week on week at $730-750 per tonne on July 8.
“The steel mills have concluded some good rebar and wire rod export deals in the April-May period. However, buyers in Southeast Asia have gone quiet [after] lower prices became available from other sources,” a Turkish mill source said.
“We haven’t heard of any significant rebar export deals in recent weeks. However, demand in Southeast Asia may recover after September, when seasonal effects are reduced. The market may then see a revival,” another mill sources said.
Wire rod export prices have also been steady over the past week.
