Turkish billet prices have continued to rise over the past week in line with strengthening scrap import values and firm demand, sources said on Thursday July 6.
Billet suppliers in the CIS region have raised their offers to $445-455 per tonne cfr from $425 per tonne earlier in the week.
However, Turkish buyers were still interested in buying scrap for the moment, according to the sources.
Metal Bulletin’s weekly price assessment for billet imports into Turkey was $425-430 per tonne cfr, up from the $410-415 per tonne of last week.
Meanwhile, domestic billet prices in Turkey also increased, with news of sales at $428-450 per tonne ex-works.
Long steel producer Kardemir opened its domestic billet sales at $428-442 per tonne on July 4 and closed its sales book after selling some 30,000-38,000 tonnes on the same day.
Another steel mill in the Iskenderun region was heard selling some 10,000 tonnes of billet at $450 per tonne ex-works later in the week.
The weekly price assessment for billet exports out of Turkey rose to $450-460 per tonne fob, from last week’s $410-415 per tonne.
